Resolving Financial & Parental Issues
Although Greg LeClair’s family law practice encompasses all aspects of family law, Greg’s focus is on the financial issues arising from separation and divorce. These cases often present complex legal and accounting questions.
Greg’s family law practice encompasses family law issues from family property division (including the division of family company and trusts), to spousal and child support. We also help with parenting issues such as child custody and guardianship, child residency, child mobility, parental access, parenting time, and parental responsibilities. In his family law practice, Greg has drafted numerous domestic agreements including pre-nuptial, co-habitation, marriage, separation, and parenting agreements. As well, Greg can help you with pre-separation and post-separation considerations, organization, and strategies.
Negotiated Settlements
Although the client is ultimately in control of the flow and pace of his/her own case, Greg LeClair’s primary goal in family disputes is to pursue and facilitate a negotiated settlement for the client as quickly as possible. Greg has extensive experience in family law dispute resolution through direct negotiations, collaborative meetings, mediations, med./arb., and arbitration.
Having stated that the primary goal is negotiated settlement, sometimes, family law negotiations run into an opposing party who does not want to be reasonable and does not want to settle the matter in a fair and equitable manner. Unfortunately, in such cases, formal court involvement is necessary.
In his over 30 years of legal practice, Greg has represented clients in over 100 court trials. He has appeared as lead legal counsel at all levels of court in British Columbia, including the BC Provincial Court, Court of Appeal, Supreme Court, the Tax Court of Canada, and the Federal Court.
For separating or divorcing couples, there is no substitute for experienced legal counsel. Experienced counsel can guide you through one of the most tumultuous times in your life. Almost nothing in your life will have a greater impact on your financial well being than a domestic separation. You need a legal guide who understands the landscape and the potential pitfalls. Let us guide you.
